One step forward, and two steps back.
President Donald Trump just made a controversial decision to ban transgender people from serving in the U.S. military. He claims the reasoning behind his decision is just "tremendous medical costs" and the "disruption" it would cause, but let's just be honest, he really means he hates transgender people.
He announced his decision on Twitter Wednesday morning:
Trump's decision comes a year after the Pentagon lifted a ban against transgender individuals serving in the military.
“Our mission is to defend this country, and we don’t want barriers unrelated to a person’s qualification to serve preventing us from recruiting or retaining the soldier, sailor, airman or Marine who can best accomplish the mission,” the at-the-time Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said. “We have to have access to 100% of America’s population for our all-volunteer force to be able to recruit from among them the most highly qualified — and to retain them.”
If someone's willing to risk their life for this country, why should their gender identity matter? Last time we checked, Trump cared about the LGBT (emphasis on the T) community "more than anyone."
Trump claims he made this decision after speaking with his "generals and military experts" which is probably just Russia.
