Why People In Kenya Will Get To See The Highly Anticipated 'Black Panther' Before Anyone Else

There's major buzz surrounding the new Black Panther movie, which many are calling the biggest, baddest Marvel movie yet.

It opens on Feb. 16 worldwide...except for those who live in Lupita Nyong'o's hometown of Kisumu, Kenya.

Local Kenyan newspaper The Daily Nation reported the film was hosting two special screenings of the movie on Feb. 13, three days before the rest of the world gets to see it. One screening will be private and the second will be public — but what's even better than getting an early peep at one of the most highly-anticipated films of the year? Local press are adorably referring to Black Panther as the "Lupita movie."

It also just so happens that Lupita's father, Peter Anyang' Nyong'o is the governor of Kisumu County. His spokesperson told BuzzFeed Lupita's starring role was just one of the reasons he welcomed the pre-screenings in his town.

His spokesperson also said he wants Kisumu to encourage performing arts and help people make a living in this area, just like his daughter.

It's unclear whether Lupita herself will make a special appearance at these screenings in her hometown.

One thing's for sure, though. People are PUMPED to see this movie. It's amazing to see audiences so excited about a superhero movie featuring a cast that primarily made up of POC — this is definitely something to be celebrated!

Kudos to Lupita and her Pops for helping make this the grand event it has become!
